Abstract
From Shariati’s point of view, as a responsible intellectual, the question of "how to be" in a world where "moral values" are changing fundamentally, is considered as the "most crucial" issue for women. In his view, the crisis regarding gender domain is the main cause of the dichotomy of traditional women and modern women. He believes that due to the intense rhythm of the developments of the modern world, the era of "traditional woman" is over. Contrary to the traditional woman, Shariati points to the modern woman that the bourgeois system with applying the plan of sexuality, the authenticity of the gender and the originality of individualism prepares her through means of the modern world to accept the point that the female body should be applied in line with the aspirations of the capitalist system. Shariati considers overcoming the duality of the traditional woman and the modern woman for creating "the third model woman" as solution to resolve the foresaid crisis. According to Shariati, "the greatest weapon to fight against the imposition of Western values and the greatest means to create a conscious resistance in the new generation of Islamic societies against the invitation of the West" is to return to the "Home of Fatima". The purpose of this research is to critically review Shariati's idea on the subject of Muslim women's conscious resistance against the "attack of Western modernism”. In line with this goal, Shariati's thoughts in the field of women and family were evaluated with a discourse-interpretive approach. Based on the findings of this study, considering history as linear evolutionary approach, highlighting modernity as the standpoint for rethinking about tradition and the idea of returning to “the House of Fatima”, reconstructing history based on leftist ideology without considering the internal logic of tradition and the originality of political struggle with the West and neglecting modernity's cultural criticism can be mentioned as main problems of this outlook.
